The soft palate is high and tense which gives a slight nasal twang which can vary in degree, depending on age, class, region of the speaker.
Mississippi
There is less of a nasal twang, especially in upper class speech.
Georgia
A Georgia dialect is softer and less nasal than in Alabama, depending on how rural or urban the speaker is. It is is less rhotic, which means that the r sound before a consonant: garden, farm, park is not as strong.
