The Irish dialect is influenced by a combination of the Gaelic language and early 16th Century English.  It is characterized by a lilt which varies in tune from county to country throughout the country.  The dialect of the Republic of Ireland in the South is quite different in melody from that in the North of Ireland due to the influence of the Scottish settlers brought in to colonize the North in the 16th Century.
