Russian is an Eastern Slavonic language closely related to Ukrainian and Belorussian with about 277 million speakers in Russia and 30 other countries as well as Kazakhstan,  Kyrgyzstan, and many minor or unrecognized territories. It is an unofficial but widely-spoken language in  Ukraine,  Latvia,  Estonia, and to a lesser extent, the other countries that were once part of the former Soviet Union.

Russian is a language that uses lots of chest resonance, without a wide use of range.

There is a sliding inflection, downward and then up. The placement of the voice is under the soft palate with the tongue pulled back. The tone quality is in a minor key.
